Hi, I’m Alexander Sklar

I’m a Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft, where I work on building agentic operating systems. My expertise spans Windows architecture, systems programming, and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

What I Do

For the past 18 years, I’ve been building developer tools and systems that help engineers be more productive. Currently, I’m focused on integrating AI capabilities at the operating system level—exploring what happens when intelligent agents become first-class citizens in your OS architecture.

My Focus Areas

  • Agentic Operating Systems: Designing OS-level primitives for AI agents
  • Model Context Protocol (MCP): Building tools and infrastructure for the MCP ecosystem
  • Developer Tools: Creating tools that improve engineering workflows
  • Enterprise AI: Implementing AI features at Microsoft scale

Why I Write

The AI revolution is fundamentally changing how we think about software architecture, and I’m right in the middle of it. I write to:

  • Share technical insights from building AI systems at scale
  • Explore the intersection of traditional systems programming and modern AI
  • Challenge conventional wisdom with real-world experience
  • Connect with fellow engineers pushing the boundaries of what’s possible

Connect With Me

I’m most active on LinkedIn, where I share shorter insights and engage with the developer community. This blog is for longer-form explorations of ideas that need more space to breathe.
